1. Why you selected this particular activity and the aspects which called your attention.
Having a newspaper (no matter if it is a class or school one) is a great idea because students can have an option to give opinions and know that they will be read. When you held a newspaper you have the chance to evaluate what students write, to understand how they feel, to know what their interests are, and it is also a great place in which students can learn new things and also teach about topics they are interested in. Besides, the approach they have to exposing news, opinions, reviews can be helpful to their social skills.
2. The benefits of using this activity.
A newspaper is informative, and so having one at a school level could be good to inform about different types of activities such as sport matches, fundraising events, field trips, and the like. The benefit of all this is that students can be the ones in charge of administering the newspaper, and through this, teachers give them the responsibility to be in charge of an important part of the school. At a class level, students can have different roles on what to post, some of them might be more interested in news, others in information, and many types of readings that can be found in a regular newspaper. It is a project in which everyone is involved, and because of this it gives a sense of belonging and having an crucial place on something, a feeling that most of the students need to have in their lives in order to feel important and understand that they are able to be a part of something bigger.
3. How you would adapt/implement this activity in your current teaching practicum.
Each student can be assigned a different role depending on how the class is, and what their interests are. An important aspect to keep in mind is in which grade is this activity going to be implemented, since if the students are old enough, they might want to have mor independence on what to write. But if the students are little kids, the teacher would need to implement some topics and give tips to write. Also, for cases such as the previous one, a section for drawings could be implemented in order to let kids express their ideas in different and also valid ways.
